self help

~ self help ~

a surprise gift on my desk today:

a small paperback

with positive color and pointing arrows,

packed full of promises

of perfecting my personality;

meant to mold it

into another corporate citizen

who will nod and smile unquestioningly

at perfunctory platitudes

that stoke the share price,

and distract us from the realization

that we ourselves are but stock

in a world of cowering complicity,

from which I willingly help myself.

    1. The first one they gave us was the appallingly self-indulgent “Art of Possibility” by husband and wife “team Zander”. This inspired my earlier post corporate dreaming a perspective and the follow on post the same day (to date the only time I have posted twice in one day!). I cannot recall the latest book. It is red and it’s not by Mao. I will let you know when I get back from work tomorrow!

      1. My apologies, I kept forgetting to check back. It was a paperback by 4 authors who I don’t care to remember entitled “Crucial Conversations”
