Grace

The Sunday Sermon – well not really. Traditionally, today is the day of the big Sunday Dinner as we used to call it when I was child. Usually around 2pm or so (after the pub closed), it was an opportunity for the family to get together once a week around the dinner table and eat an unnecessarily large feast – which we all enjoyed thoroughly.

I do not come from a religious family, but having moved to Pennsylvania I am now surrounded by those so afflicted and who insist on “saying grace” before getting down to the hard work of scoffing every single meal and, these days, throwing away a significant amount of uneaten food afterwards.

So, as I am having one of my “down” days, brought on by the rainfall,  I offer my perspective. I am not expecting this to be popular.

~ Grace ~

Thank you, O unseen one for showing us Favor

Providing your bounty as something to Savour

As we feast on this Meal we praise our good Luck

That you care for US greatly as you don’t give a Fuck…

For those Others abroad in places far Flung

That are ruled by the Heathen and governed by Gun

But though many there Praise you, it seems not Enough

To calm Your huge ego so I guess that it’s Tough

For millions of Believers have only a Diet

Of promise of Heaven and so dare not to Riot

Against the Controls that are put into Place

To continue this Construct that plagues Human Race

So thanks once again, God, for sharing your Grace

And I’ll try not to Think of a starving child’s Face

Or ponder or question your Omnipotence

As I go through this daily Rite of pretence.

  1. There’s no such think as luck, but it is scientifically proven that it is human nature to believe in a creator so be grateful towards whatever that creator may be. He is beyond the 7 heavens, time and space.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Jack. Is it really “..scientifically proven” – where? I do NOT believe in a creator; in fact the construct makes no scientific sense and was questioned by my 8-year old freethinking daughter years ago. Anyhow, the point of my post was to question the value of praising such an omnipresent superbeing that is quite happy to let half the world starve to death whilst simultaneously allowing a small proportion to fret about obesity… 😉

      1. The links, reference and studies are all there https://jacktheladhub.com/2016/03/06/is-believing-in-the-god-human-nature-jack-the-lad/ Also read up on Science Daily it has a lot of studies referring to this fact. And I understand the point of the article but you are looking at it from an emotional and subjective point of view rather look at it rationally and study ‘The Problem Of Evil’ https://jacktheladhub.com/2016/02/03/the-problem-of-evil-how-can-god-be-all-good-when-evil-and-suffering-exist-islamic-concept-jack-the-lad/ Today there is a documentary by National Geographic about the very topic but it’s probably going to be from the Christian aspect so it would not be taking all things into question about this topic but it’s a good start. It’s only Christianity that refer to a ‘God’ that is all good forgetting other attribution of a creator of the universe and beyond. Thank for connecting 🙂

      1. This question is inherently self-contradictory. If we were to say – for the sake of argument – that someone created ‘the creator’, then they would ask you, Who created the creator of the Creator? Then, who created the creator of the creator of the creator?! And so on, ad infinitum. This is irrational and impossible.

Watch this to get a better explanation for the sake of your daughter and for your own benefit https://jacktheladhub.com/2015/11/09/allah-or-multiverse/ Either way wherever you end up have a good day 🙂

      2. Of course “This question is inherently self-contradictory.” That’s the whole point. As a Pastafarian I believe His Noodliness created it, and that He is just as selfish as every other super being that we have created. 😉

      3. Use logic and rationality instead of emotions when it comes to science and philosophy otherwise it just seems like your throwing your toys out of the pram when something isn’t coherent with your own opinions 🙂

      4. But I enjoy throwing my toys out of the pram 😀
May His Noodly Appendages touch you and and make today your Daily Special.
